the definite article 40
Reforming the left, reforming Gaza, reforming the Hamas, reforming the BBC...
Leading off this week with two articles aiming at reforming the democratic party, or at least the political landscape in America.

I was not expecting this to be an interesting article, but it sure was. The writer compares the authoritarian tendencies of the left and right - that was to be expected. But he also drew parallels between the statism of naziism and socialism, even quoting Nazi ideolouges who defined naziism as a form of socialism. And it’s not just wordplay. But he is not drawing any connections between the modern Left and Nazis, except for the antisemitic fringe.

This is another article that allows Ehud Olmert to try to justify his tenure as prime minister by claiming that he was “this close” to bringing peace to the Middle East. One can only imagine how many October 7th types of attacks we would have suffered had Abbas actually agreed, but as Abba Eban used to say: the Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. If there are those who believe the Netanyahu was willing to sacrifice hostages in order to stay in power (which I don’t believe), what do they say about a prime minister who was willing to sacrifice the country to stay in power?

You may have heard the 5 empty Israeli busses were completely destroyed by terrorist bombs last week, and maybe you just chalked it up to a demonstration by Hamas of their power in a “peaceful” way of destroying property instead of people. In fact, it seems the terrorists erred in setting the timers for p.m. instead of a.m., when the busses would have been full of shoppers and commuters….

I am including a couple of articles that give some historical and legal views on Trump’s plan to clear the Palestinians out of Gaza.
For the life of me, I cannot understand the chorus of Jewish voices who imagine themselves as arbiters of morality and insist that the Gazans stay there in those ruins without infrastructure, under the continued rule of Hamas. Let’s condemn them and Israel to further generations of conflict and bloodshed! Let’s force those Palestinians to stay there and prevent them from seeking asylum in counties of the West who were more than willing to absorb millions of refugees from Syria, Iraq, Libya, Somalia…. You think Israel is cruel to the Palestinians? It seems it is the leftist Jews who really hate them!

Finally, an article about the murder of the Bibas family and the barbaric spectacle put on by Hamas.

An interesting article from Tablet about the first instance of international terror as a spectator sport.

I assume this article is behind a paywall, at least partially, but read what you can and consider subscribing to the Free Press (yes, they are irritating at times. But they also provide some very good investigative reporting). The piece is about a documentary aired by the BBC about life in wartime Gaza hosted by some young teenagers. They neglect to tell you that one of the teens is the son of a Hamas official. After complaints, BBC ended up pulling the documentary, but the BBC has come under fire for systematic bias in their coverage of the Middle East and Israel.
